Heart Strings
I admit it. I’m a flirt. I flirt with servers at restaurants. I flirt with checkout clerks at the grocery store. And I’ve been known to flirt with disaster on occasion.

Thing is, I love to elicit a smile, a laugh or a slight change in mood,  if only for a fleeting moment. Sure, flirting can carry negative connotations, and I’ve probably come across poorly given my self-proclaimed affinity for it. But in my opinion, there’s no harm, no foul when done with the right intentions.

My version of flirting is really about lifting moods–mine and those of the people I meet. It goes beyond personal gain. It’s therapy for my heart to see other people react to friendly comments, and it’s good for others to hear a compliment from a stranger. I’m not attempting to steal anyone’s husband or make enemies of my female relations. In fact, rarely am I flirting to attract romantic attention. Just the thought of brightening someone’s day, if only for a brief moment, is reason enough for me.

Life’s too short not to make every encounter matter. Whether it’s the cashier at the drive-through Starbucks window, the waiter who looks tense and tired or the mom who wears a smile even when she’s down, a little “flirting” goes a long way to make someone’s day.

Go ahead and try it; it’ll do your body good.
